There's always next year

I was eliminated a half an hour after midnight when my AQ lost to a pocket pair of 10's. I'm too emotionally and physically tired to give to full recap now, but you can expect in tomorrow or the next day. I'd like to sincerely thank my backers for their full support and apologize for not doing better. I'd also like to thank all of my friends and family for their kind words of encouragement and good luck wishes. Even though the WSOP is over I've enjoyed writing this blog so much that I plan to keep writing about my poker career, what's going on with Jen and general ruminations about the world. I plan to make Friday morning blog day for me so you 9-to-5 ers can start every Monday off with a little procrastination. There will still be plenty of poker stuff, but there will also be more (I'll gladly accept topics for discussion).

I definitely spent a lot of time day dreaming about returning a conquering hero with stacks of hundred dollar bills, my name in print and my face on ESPN and it's just hitting me that this is not going to happen...this year.

I think the fact that you played with the big boys until midnight is a fine showing. Remember, also, that you are only 26, after all (and I don't mean that to be condescending at all), and there are a lot of WSOP opportunities in your future.

It would have been amazing had you scored big this time, but, as great as you are, how likely was it? Maybe you'll be a crusty old 32, with 7 WSOP years under your belt when it finally happens for you, but I believe it WILL happen. Like anything else that's worth having or doing, you just have to keep trying.

I'll be waiting for those diapers....

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. When I was growing up my mother must have repeated that phrase on a daily basis. So I'll pass it on to you because I know it’s just a matter of time before you do succeed and ESPN comes knocking at your door!!

for me, eventually seeing you on espn is not a matter of if but when. heres to it happening sooner rather than later.

Well, at least you are so damn good looking. Think of all the people who not only busted out on day 1 but are also ugly. How much would THAT suck?!

BTW, how is Matt doing?

Anyway, I'm sure we'll see you on ESPN in the next several years. If not sitting at the final table, then at least for a moment or two, busting out someone famous. Or perhaps making some kind of ridiculous scene. You just need a hook. Like that guy who wouldn't wash his shirt last year.

Congratulations on just having the guts to try, and better luck next year!

Also Jen, I am very impressed by your take. I think this angle needs to be explored more. Next year I'd like to see a multi-day, multi-suitcase swag strategy put in place. Perhaps we could make our own WSOS? I'd enter that!

My WSOP 2023 Plans and Missions

After four and a half years working for StubHub I wrapped up my time there in March. I've been at the poker tables 3-4 days a week since...
